Sinbi Muay Thai Training Camp - Phuket, Thailand

The Muay Thai training program we do here in Thailand is as follows.

Morning - You need to develop strong legs and your cardiovascular system as part of your Muay Thai Training in Thailand. Part of conditioning legs for muay thai is running.

6.45 am - Jog to and around Nai Harn Lake this is optional unless you are fighting then you must run twice a day. The run varies from 6.6 km to about 9km depending on if you do 1 or 2 laps around the lake. There are other routes available but this is the most popular due to its beautiful scenery and the cool breeze coming off the sea.

7.30 am - Stretching for around 10-15 minutes followed by some shadowboxing in the mirrors as a warmup

Muay Thai training Thailand    muay thai techniques

After the warmup the beginners will likely go with Pot to learn the basic Muay Thai techniques in the stretching area. All others will go onto bags for some bag work during which time you will be called up at some point to do a number of rounds on the pads with a trainer and the number of rounds and duration depends on your ability. While you're on the bags you will have trainers watching and correcting you sometimes but the padwork is where you get most your 1 on 1 lesson and also the most painful part of your workout not to mention arguably the most important part of Muay Thai training in Thailand!

Traditional Muay Thai training   Muay Thai Training Trainer

A little later on you do group bag work where you do drills with partners on the bags such as 1 minute punching rounds and duel kicking. You then tend to finish off doing repetitive exercises such as practicing kicks and knees over and over with the trainers guiding you. During traditional muay thai training fighters will repeat the same exercise such as kicking a bag, sometimes hundreds of times a day as part of shin conditioning as well as perfecting the technique, while developing power.

To finish the more experienced people will go clinch in the ring or spar with each other or the trainers.

Afternoon Muay Thai training

3.30 - optional run, a short run of around 3-6 km at a faster pace. It is usually very warm in the afternoons so best to do your long run on a morning and a shorter more intense run in the afternoon, pherhaps involving interval running.

4 pm the class starts

Afternoon Muay Thai training is the same as morning training with a few differences or as the Thais would say, "Same same but different!"  The difference is you start prior to stretching with running around the gym for around 5 minutes, then you skip for 10 minutes, then you get onto the above training regime. Also sparring is a lot more common in the afternoons and tends to happen after padwork and bag work. This is optional and is best done once you have picked up the basic techniques first. Hopefully this will help you prepare for your muay thai training in Thailand.
